The Enchantment of Tuscany: Where Nature Meets History
Tuscany is a marvel of our land. Its balanced climate creates unique microclimates. These allow for the cultivation of olive trees, and red and white grapevines. Along the coast, the Mediterranean maquis grows wild, low near the sea, taller inland. The vegetation changes rapidly: patches, holm oak woods, then beeches, junipers, and oaks. Everywhere, near the sea, maritime pines tower. They are twisted by the wind on the beach or majestic in the inland plain. On the hillocks, sparse, they accompany the cypresses that watch over the wheat fields.
The Charm of the Coast and the Sienese Hinterland
The cypresses accompany the Viale di Bolgheri, “tall and slender”. Then the road curves inland, discovering the Sienese countryside. The air is intoxicated by the scent of Brunello di Montalcino. Ancient patrician residences and majestic stone farmhouses dot the landscape. Brooks, streams, and rivulets meander to the Arno, which bathes Florence. The journey continues north, towards Pisa and the fashionable Versilia. The Apuan Alps are reflected in the sea.
A Dive into the Blue of the Tuscan Archipelago
A dip in the azure sea reveals the islands: Meloria, Capraia, Gorgona. Further away, Elba, Pianosa, and Giglio make up the Tuscan Archipelago. These islands are small pieces of Tuscany, with the same vegetation as the mainland. South-westerly gales bend the centuries-old pines and force the myrtle to remain low. The holm oaks take on the shapes of ancient wrestlers, resisting the wind. The sea is alive: seagulls, cormorants, tuna, dolphins, and even small sharks accompany us towards the coast.
The Maremma: Ancient Scents and Wild Nature
The land that stands out on the horizon smells of the Maremma, of the lagoon, of ancient swamps and brackish marshes. Natural parks such as Capalbio, Talamone, and Orbetello dot the coast. Villages and hamlets follow one another. The Etruscan settlements of Populonia blend with medieval buildings. The Medici towers watch over the sea. Roman villas testify to the beauty of these places for millennia.
Experiencing Authentic Tuscany: An Ancient Seaside Farmhouse
What better way to enjoy these wonders than an ancient farmhouse facing the Etruscan Sea? A way of life breathing in the scents of the countryside and the Mediterranean maquis. One perceives the odours of farming activities, of traditional cuisine: soups, ribollita, stewed game, grilled fish, seabass “all’isolana” style, first-pressed olive oil, and genuine farm wine.
Castiglioncello: The Pearl of the Tyrrhenian
Castiglioncello, “the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian”, juts out towards the sea, a promontory covered in pine forest that plunges into an azure sea with unique beaches. We offer rooms and apartments to the guests of the Condominio Residenza Solferino. The pool and solarium on the hill invite relaxation, lulled by the gentle breeze. Children can make friends and play in the grove.
Relaxation and Fun for the Whole Family
In the evening, the barbecues in the gardens offer the possibility of grilling fish or sumptuous Florentine steaks. In Castiglioncello and the surrounding area, there is no shortage of cinemas, theatres, discos, restaurants, bowling alleys, and pubs. In a short time, you can reach Livorno, Pisa, and Versilia, with events such as the Versiliana and clubs like the Capannina and the Bussola. For those who prefer tranquillity, the Castiglioncello Festival offers evenings of music, dance, theatre, poetry, and exhibitions from May to November.
A Territory to Explore: Art and Culture at Your Fingertips
Even in case of rain, Tuscany offers alternatives to the sea and sun. Art cities such as Volterra, San Gimignano, Massa Marittima, and Pisa are easily reachable. Or you can visit Populonia, Baratti, Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, Calci, Bibbona, Livorno, Tirrenia, Piombino, and Donoratico. We are at the centre of an amphitheatre of wonders, with the sea in front and an infinite number of destinations to discover inland. And then there are the weekly markets, such as those in Forte dei Marmi, Castiglioncello, Rosignano, and Cecina.
